Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested in the Bahamas

Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested in the Bahamas, according to a statement from the  Attorney General and the Department of Justice.

The arrest comes after official notification was received from the United States that it has filed criminal charges against Bankman-Fried and is likely to seek his extradition.

"The Bahamas and the United States share a common interest in prosecuting anyone associated with FTX who may have betrayed the public trust and violated the law," Prime Minister Philip Davis said in a statement.

"While the United States will pursue individual criminal charges against SBF, The Bahamas will continue its  regulatory and criminal investigation into the collapse of FTX."

The US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York confirmed the news.

“Earlier this evening, Bahamian authorities arrested Samuel Bankman-Fried  on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY at the request of the United States government. We expect to file charges in the morning and will have more to say at that time," the agency said on Twitter.

Bankman-Fried was scheduled to testify in a congressional hearing tomorrow.
